Modified Generic Phone
Model
Based on [1], this aplication considers the freespace analysis of a modified generic phone operating at 900 MHz. The model includes an internal antenna, PCB battery, dielectric housing, keypad and display. In oder to represent the physical losses, the PCB is modeled as 2 PEC layers with a dielectric center and PEC vias. A PEC island is isolated from the PCB upon which the internal antenna rests. An edge source is used to excite the antenna.
Simulation
A minimum grid step of 0.5 mm and a maximum grid step of 15 mm are used. The grid is refined around the antenna to resolve the geometry of the antenna and the hgih field grandients which are expected in this area. 6 layer PML ABCs are used, and a harmonic excitation at 900MHz is chosen.
Results
A range of significant RF performance parameters are recorded including Zin, radiation efficiency, gain and directivety. Near-field distributions as well as the far-field radiation pattern are also recorded .
