Progress for IEC 62209-3 Standard in San Francisco

Progress for IEC 62209-3 Standard in San Francisco

The IEC PT 62209 meetings were held earlier this month in San Francisco. The meetings were a great success, with significant progress made toward publication of IEC 62209-1 and development of 62209-3. There was broad representation at the meeting, with several regulatory agencies, wireless device manufacturers, SAR testing laboratories and measurement system manufacturers in attendance.

The committee agreed that the new IEC 62209-3 standard will be defined to include broad acceptance of vector measurement-based systems. This decision encourages innovation in this area.

The group also made great progress in defining validation and uncertainty protocols for these systems. Regulators took interest in ensuring that rigorous and well-defined validation. The IT’IS Foundation, together with leading universities, is developing the sources and procedures for validation of the uncertainty of array systems.

Regulatory acceptance:
  • DASY52 is fully compatible with all international SAR measurement standards, and it is the industry-leading dosimetric and near-field evaluation system.
  • cDASY6 combines DASY52 hardware with cSAR3D software to significantly reduce the SAR test time. cDASY6 will be fully compatible all world-wide SAR regulations when it is released this summer, as it uses fully standard-compliant test equipment and protocols. This makes it the safest way forward for regulatory approval.
  • cSAR3D is the fastest SAR measurement system available based on the most accurate vector array technology. It will be compatible with IEC 62209-3 when that standard is published. It is currently accepted for pre-screening for SAR compliance evaluation. cDASY6 complements cSAR3D where maximum accuracy is required.
