Extended Frequency Range for DAK-12: 10 MHz – 5 GHz

We are pleased to announce an innovation that makes it possible to measure dielectric parameters of materials across the entire RF frequency range from 10 MHz to 50 GHz with only three DAK probes, saving time and costs for our customers. The novel algorithm corrects for the distortions caused by electrode polarization at the very low end of the frequency band based on calibration data and extends the applicability of the DAK-12 Probe down to 10 MHz. The associated measurement uncertainties for different frequency ranges and materials are provided in our calibration certificate (see our scope of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation). The new algorithm will become available for all customers with the new software release at the end of April. Please also note that we are continuously extending the list of supported VNAs http://www.speag.com/products/dak/components/vna.

Advance Notice: Next Generation of Probe Systems – TDS

Our high-performance TDS probes are designed for measurements in the time and frequency domains covering a bandwidth from 10MHz to 6GHz. First single axis free-space E- and H-field probe systems will be released in the next quarter.

The novel active-optical probe technology employed in SPEAG TDS probes presents several unprecedented performance features. SPEAG TDS probes allow measurements in the time domain with a minimal sensitivity dispersion over a large bandwidth. The miniature, optically isolated sensor makes TDS probes ideal for near-field measurement applications. The fast optical probe technology allows the assessment of the full RF signal information, including amplitude, phase and modulation characteristics. Compared to passive optical probes, the active sensor head offers an unparalleled sensitivity increase of more than 60dB.

TDS probes are ideal for near- and far-field measurement applications where the exact determination of complex vectorial field distribution is necessary, for applications in EM-hostile environments, and for applications where a reliable characterization of the time-domain signal over a large bandwidth is required. Examples of such applications include: EMC/EMI sniffing and scanning, MRI B1 characterization, and EMP, near-field antenna, and MIMO measurements.

Detailed information on TDS probes can be found on our product webpage.

iSAR Quad Release

iSAR Quad Release

iSAR Quad, the newest member of the iSAR product line, is officially released. It is the largest and highest-resolution iSAR available. iSAR Quad is capable of scanning a 562 mm x 386 mm planar area, making it well suited for scanning laptops, tablet computers and other large devices. It is also capable of 1 mm resolution scan resolution, using novel algorithms. The sensors are conformal to the top surface and embedded in an absorbing material simulating head or body tissue. It also improves the precision for SAR evaluations of devices operating above 3 GHz.

Top view of the iSAR Quad, measuring the SAR pattern from a wireless LAN antenna on a laptop.

iSAR Quad has two modes of operation (see figure below). In single scan operation, iSAR Quad performs a single measurement, typically in less than one second using a 15 mm scan resolution in the same way as iSAR Flat operation.

In full scan operation, the 256-element sensor array is moved under the device, over the full scanning area. Movement is continuous and the SAR distribution is constructed with 1 mm resolution. A total scanning time under one minute is possible, depending on the user settings.

iSAR measurement panel, showing a full scan (left) and a single scan (right) on the iSAR Quad.

Greatly Improved Broad Band Liquids for the 3500 - 5800 MHz Bands

SPEAG continues to refine its tissue simulating material products for improved accuracy, stability and easy-to-use and maintain. After several months of optimization, we are now ready to release the new broad-band liquids (Version 5) for head and body tissue simulating liquids that replaces our current products. They are both within ±5% compared to the target values, provide a strongly improved long-time stability and reduce the effort for handling and maintenance. As a consequence, our customers will experience lower costs and increased repeatability.

The following new generation liquids have been released:

HBBL3500-5800V5: Head Simulating Liquid covering 3500-5800 MHz

MBBL3500-5800V5: Body Simulating Liquid covering 3500-5800 MHz

iSAR Quad Pre-Release

SPEAG is announcing a pre-release of iSAR Quad, the newest member of the iSAR product line. The full release is planned for next month.

iSAR Quad is the largest and highest-resolution iSAR available. iSAR Quad is capable of scanning a 600 mm x 400 mm planar area, making it well suited for scanning laptops, tablet computers and other large devices. It is also capable of 1 mm resolution scan resolution, using novel algorithms. The sensors are conformal to the top surface and embedded in an absorbing material simulating head or body tissue.

In single scan operation, iSAR Quad performs a single measurement, typically in less than one second using a 15 mm scan resolution in the same way as iSAR Flat operation.

In full scan operation, the 256-element sensor array is moved under the device, over the 600 x 400 mm scanning area. Movement is continuous and the SAR distribution is constructed with 1 mm resolution. The total scanning time is under one minute.

More information about the iSAR Quad can be found on our website: http://www.speag.com/products/isar2/isar2-systems/isar-quad/

Golden Validation Device Release

SPEAG is pleased to announce the release of the Golden Validation Device. We have responded to your requests by providing a very stable, reliable and easy-to-use reference source for SAR and OTA measurements that is fully calibrated and characterized including an uncertainty budget. Unlike a mobile phone, it does not require connection to a network or special commands to operate. The Golden Validation Device is a stand-alone source, so unlike a reference antenna, it does not require an external source and a cable.

The antenna of the Golden Validation Device is well-matched under different loading conditions so that it provides a reliable output. For iSAR measurements, the device is specially designed to check sensor performance. The combined use of pulsed and continuous transmission modes enables a comprehensive verification of the sensors. Low permittivity foam spacers are used for accurate positioning of the Golden Validation Device on the iSAR Head and iSAR Flat.

The Golden Validation Device is provided with a calibration certificate. Calibration is performed according to high quality SPEAG standards. A fully validated simulation model (SEMCAD X format) will soon be available on special request.
